I have served as Center Director, Grand Street Settlement Child Care Center; Executive Director of The Presbyterian Hospital Infant & Child Care Center; Director of The West End Collegiate Church Playschool; Director of Advanced Child Care Center; and Executive Director of The Brownstone School, all in the metropolitan New York City area.
Welcome. It's a pleasure to have you stop by for a visit. I was reared in Rock Island, Illinois where I spent the greatest portion of my childhood pestering a younger brother. As I grew older I realized that a brother wasn't so bad and I turned my attention to earning a B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Augustana College in Rock Island.
After I married, I resided in beautiful DeRidder, Louisiana where the spring time azeleas lined the main streets. I provided music for the US Army Chapel Services at Fort Polk, Louisiana a few miles away.
In a few years I found myself a student at Teachers College at Columbia University in New York City. There I earned an MA degree in Early Childhood Education and taught in private schools in the New York area. Presently, I reside in Hackensack, New Jersey and work at a child care center in New York City.
For additional entertainment, I've been known to engage in decorative baking. In addition to creating fancy cakes and cookies, I enjoy baking and decorating gingerbread houses.
In 1999 I decided to established Rexdale Publishing Company after a co-worker had been trying to publish his poetry and had received one-too-many rejection slips. Entry into the world of publishing was not entirely new to me as I'd spent some time writing for the school newspaper, editing the school yearbook and even now am a contributing writer for The County Seat , our local community newspaper in Bergen County, New Jersey. However, these positions did not prepare me for the joy and excitement of working with authors as they brought their books to life.
In 2000, I met Mr. Bryan Ryker, an author and well-known expert on encased coins. I had wanted to use encased coins as an advertising tool for my company, but it was really Mr. Ryker's patience and expertise that allowed for the creation of our beautiful commemorative advertising pieces.
Together we are planning additional pieces that will commemorate books that are being published by Rexdale Publishing Company and by my imprint company, Presbyopian Press. . These pieces will utilize coins from around the world and will be exciting additions to the world of encased coins.
In 2004 I established Cradle-Rockers a service providing educational seminars for early childhood educators. A new encased was designed utilizing the 2004 Peace Medal nickel (encasement is anodized blue) and the 2004 Keelboat nickel (encasement is anodized ink). Tentative plans are on the drawing board to utilize the new 2005 nickels in an upcoming Cradle-Rockers piece.
In 2007 I organized The Cradle-Rockers Playschool, Inc., a non-profit child care program which will open its doors in northern Manhattan. Space is currently being sought at this time.
In 2008 I relocated to Florida where I am a certified Florida Department of Elder AffairsVolunteer for the SHINE Program (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders). There I am able to assist people with their questions regarding Medicare and health insurance options.
